Committee Background and Responsibilities

The Cape Royal community has 23 man-made lakes and this committee is responsible for weed control and water quality of the lakes as required by the South Florida Water Management District’s Permit No. 36-0045-S.  The Lakes Committee contracts annually with a third party to treat the lakes for control of exotic/nuisance plants and weeds.

As part of this committee’s responsibility for the water quality of the lakes, they have a cadre of resident volunteers who deliver water samples to the Lee County Hyacinth Control District for testing each month.

The Lakes Committee monitors and manages lake-related activities and provides recommendations to the Surface Water Management Chair and the HOA Board of Directors as needed.   Additional responsibilities include the following:

  • Understand the issues relative to its scope responsibilities by communicating with the BOD and HOA membership.

  • Develop and manage the approved annual Budget.

  • Develop tactical plans specific to the budget, committee plans and objectives.

  • Execute plans utilizing project management skills.

  • Manage BOD approved 3rd party contracts.

  • Periodically assess future requirements of the Committee’s long range planning and communicating to the Board.
