Community Emergency Response Team
After completing an 8 week course this past spring, the Cape Royal Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is in place and ready to assist and educate our community.

CERT is about readiness, people helping people, rescuer safety, and doing the greatest good for the greatest number. CERT is a positive and realistic approach to emergency and disaster situations where citizens will be initially on their own and their actions can make a difference. Through training, citizens can manage utilities and put out small fires; treat the three killers by opening airways, controlling bleeding, and treating for shock; provide basic medical aid; search for and rescue victims safely; and organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective.

Donations (money, medical supplies, wood, and any other relevant items) are desperately needed to help us provide for Cape Royal homeowners in the time of a crisis or natural disaster.

Additionally, we are also looking to identify resources within our community that can be called upon in an emergency.  Resources include items such as generators, pick up trucks, etc.  We would also like to build a database of residents in the community who are either current or retired doctors, nurses, law enforcement officers, or firefighters.

If you would like to make a donation, become a volunteer, add your name to our list of professionals, or are interested in becoming a CERT team member please contact Marie Hughes at 239-283-1971 or mhughes410@embarqmail.com

We will pass emergency and preparedness information to the community, as we receive it.  It is the goal of CERT to prepare, as well as protect and assist, the members of our community.
